CONTEST DETAILS:

CHARACTER ENTRY ENDS AUGUST 31, 2012

=====
RULES
=====
1. The main thing that will be judged is whether you followed the instructions mentioned below. In sum: no overpowered characters.
2. Character fairness will be judged by *AquaWaters, =Dygee, and ~BlitzBolt. Each have their own diverse expectations of fairness, so no bias will be used in the selection of the participants for the contest.
3. This template must be uploadable on DA, following DA rules and regulations.

===========
INSTRUCTIONS - Should be pretty straight-forward, but you never know!
===========
Full Body Picture: Please make it as detailed as possible and in colour. Poses will not be judged. While artistic ability is not the factor of judgement, it does influence how well you can convey your character's design. Dolls, stickmen, or the use of another artist's drawing of your OC is allowed. So long as they're uploadable by DA standards.

Weapon/Accessories: A weapon must be indicated, otherwise the judges will assume they fight with their fists. Accessories, or detailed weapons, should be further explained in the artist comment.

Race: Be as creative as you want.

Class: Should indicate whether they are a fighter (uses weapons as their main attack), or mage (uses magic as their main attack). Consult the judges by commenting or noting should you have another class in mind, but we'll mainly enforce the fighter/mage category.

Elements: To maintain fairness, elemental alignments should be either-or. Therefore, you CANNOT have fire and Water as an element. However, you can have Water, Air, and psychic.

Status: DO NOT REPLICATE STATUS BARS. We have allowed 10 status bars there - place only those 10 under the categories:
Strength: Attack power
Defense: How well your OC can take hits
Agility: How fast your character is; how well they can dodge
Dexterity: Skill in performing tasks, especially with the use of their hands
Intelligence: OC's IQ - arguably a factor in the success rate of spells

Abilities: The main area of evaluation for fairness. All abilities should be fair do not overpower your OC. You can elaborate the abilities in the artist comments. You can choose to have one, two, or three abilities.

Strengths and weaknesses: The secondary area evaluated for fairness. The character should have a fair share of strengths and weaknesses that is, you cannot say that OC is smart, strong, mastery of magic, and sword master but hes weak to spiders, pudding, cats, and body odor.

============
If you have any questions, you can ask them as a comment, or note one of the judges: *AquaWaters, =Dygee, or ~BlitzBolt.
============

HAPPY OC-MAKING.

Might be tempted to give this a go. Deadline's August 31st, right?

That's correct. : ) I've extended the deadline because several people required another month to finish - also because I've been absent from DA for almost a month when I first posted the contest up, leaving many questions unanswered. ><; That was my mistake.

Good. Maybe I can get around to actually drawing some of these OCs that I've been thinking of.

What are the limits on OC's; including things like: Purely self-made, or OC's from already created media (Fan-made OC's.. etc)

Any limitations you could give me would be great; I've got lots of characters and need to narrow it down. xP

Truth be told, there are very little limits allowed for this contest - we don't want to restrict people who might draw more of one thing than the other. However, for your case, I can tell you what would be more preferred.

Fan OCs are acceptable, but it would be preferred if they were not heavily based on the fandom they come from. For instance, I'll use the ever-popular Naruto. A simple ninja using ninjetsu is common enough; however, if your character has one of the 9 sealed demons, based off one of the characters or off a certain plotpoint in which the viewers must know about Naruto... than you run into the possibility of running into confused viewers. Why? Because there are people who might not know about the fandom.

Any OC's with high-levels of mary-sue tendencies should be avoided too. You can see if they qualify as high-, medium-, or low-levels here: [link]

The OC's don't have to be combat ready either - hell, half of Aqua's OCs in this tournament don't even fight in their original stories. And they don't need to be badass, they can be kids or maids or something.

While the viewers might perfer ladies more, Aqua enjoys drawing men. ; ) But the winners are decided by the audience are pretty much diverse people like yourself. : )

I hope this helps? If you need more limitations or decisions, you can always ask your friends to see which one they'd vote for most. ; ) Best of luck! : ) And I can't wait to see who you choose, should you decide to enter this contest!

That was so helpfu; now my biggest hurdle will be getting over the fact that I'm talent-less when it comes to art; lmao. So if I do end up getting SOMETHING done; please take it with a grain of salt.. a very large grain.. lmao. (It may end up being more explanation then art...)

No worries. : ) So long as your art drawing can show the basic outfit design and any facial differences (e.g. hair, eyes, scars, earrings, etc), than it will be acceptable. Depending on the amount of entries, I most likely will redraw your character for the polls. This is simply because I don't want art style to bias the judgement. : ) Regardless, I will need a drawing of your enrolled OC made by you (or another artist other than myself).

sorry, im stupid, but i have another question. I feel stupid....uh, but can our characeters have a more than one element and ability?

You bring up some good questions. : ) You can have more than one element, so long as their not opposing. For example, you cannot have both fire and water, or fighting and psychic. But you can have fire, Earth, and Fighting. You can also have more than one ability, but you should have no more than three abilities. : )

Random thought: What if someone is a battle-mage? Can fighting and psychic still not go together then, or should the battle-mage pick a different element? Or is an element not necessarily the same as the type of spells someone can cast? Or is fighting as an element not the same as being able to fight?

Or would that simply mean my Skyrim character is barred from entering? XD

I considered this as well, but if such an OC did come up we would ask them to choose either mage or fighter. That is, do they attack mainly with magic or weapons? If it's a combination of both - like magically imbued weapons, you're still fighting primarily with weapons. It just makes it easier to place the contestants against each other. Like, having two mages against another mage OC. Instead of having two physical fighters against a mage. Of course, I realise that the world is never dichotomous.

You bring up some good points about the elements - they should correspond with the type of spells mainly used by the OC. Fighting is just a physical element - like martial arts, weapon mastery, or anything that is not-spell related. This is more as an option for fighters that are not capable of magic.

Yep! You don't need to create an OC for this contest. If you have an OC already created, you can place their full body picture in the character sheet with the necessary information and you're done! : )

(Very interesting character BTW! ;) I would love to see her in this contest!)

The character template will require a full body profile - the image you showed me is missing the lower part of the legs. : ) If there's a way to draw legs on to it, you can use that picture.

Of course! You can use Demons under race. ;)

Ok, question! I have a character in mind with no weapons and the only accessories she might have are purely for show. She does heavily rely on a series of spell types with a visual appearance. Can I put those in the weapons field instead?

And do I have to calculate the height and weight in the US system or is it ok to use the metric system instead? (Feet and pounds confuse me.)

Okay... I noticed my first reply didn't go through. Let's hope the second try does!

If you don't place a weapon in the weapon section and you indicate that they're a mage class, we'll note that the magic is formed by hands opposed through an object like a wand or such. Also, with consideration that the OC has spells with specific visual appearances, you can place that in the weapon/accessory section. : )

It doesn't matter to us whether you calculate the height and weight in the metric system, but with consideration that most of the viewers aren't familiar with the mtric system it might be better to use the US system. So in this case, to make it less confusing for the viewers, you might want to convert it into the US system.

I can't wait to see your character! :D

Really? Most viewers are from the US/UK/Canada? Ok, that's interesting. (I figured since in the international context most people use the metric system, that one would be least confusing, but if most viewers are the non-metric regions...) Or... I'll just put them both up. Win-win! :D

My character's silhouette is done, as well as the front design and I've started with the face. I also have an idea of the colour scheme. The background story is also already done! :D I even have the first story about her done in my head, but I guess that one won't be very important for this contest. (At least not very visibly.)

It's interesting to see how she's evolving from very light on her feet and 'airy' to more grounded and 'earth-like'. Still not a fighter, but certainly not a pushover opponent any more.

How would you define "psychic" btw? My character doesn't use any of those listed elements, so it's kind of a 'if not those, that the last one left' right now.

That's what I always thought. :P

I was just assuming that's where most of Aqua's viewers/contestants are from, and since she said most of her viewers don't get the metric system... But maybe most of her viewers are from the US. (DA should put a geographical chart for watchers in their gallery stats.)

Having both up is a win-win situation for sure! ;) It seems from personal experience that when I used the metric system on DA, most are confused and ask if I can convert it to their non-metric system.

I quickly saw your character! However, now that I have time on the computer, I sadly can't find her anymore. Do you have the link to her again?

:iconotlplz:

Observing from previous character templates, psychic was often the opposite of fighting (sometimes it was known as mental vs physical). However, for the reason of space and limitations, I'd place it as psychic so that people can place a non-elemental magic in there. I assume you did it correctly. : )
Looking at it now... I should have thought that one out more. ///OTL In terms of my own OCs, I don't know any that have a light/darkness alighnment so it never really dawned on me. (In terms of magic/combat, Chaos characters are based on the five elements).

I temporarily took her down, because I was drawing this ([link]) and I wanted to have the freedom to change some details if needed.

But it's almost the 30th, so I'll put her back up. :)
