Lufia II - Maxim's Death by AquaWaters Lufia II - Maxim's Death by AquaWaters

After the death of Selan</u>, our heroes noticed that the Fortress of Doom, a floating island, was going to crash into Parcelyte. Unable to warp Maxim or Selan away, Artea and Guy save themselves.

With what is left of his strength, Maxim takes his last journey deep within the island to destroy the Mystic Stones in order to change the course of the island.

Upon reaching the last mystic stone, he sacrifices the last of his life energy to break the stone.
"Selan, I changed the course. Parcelyte... our Jeros will be ok now. I'm tired. I'm so tired, Selan. Let me sleep for a while next to you..."

Mysteriously, a gentle red ball of energy appears before Maxim and the voice of Selan can be heard,
"Maxim... You did it, Maxim."
"Yeah, I did, didn't I?" Maxim softly says as he smiles gently.
"Let's go Maxim... Let's go to our son... and..."
"Yes, let's do that..."

And with his last words, Maxim softly dies as his blue aura and Selen's red aura travels the peaceful world they created for their son and everyone else.

The final scene in Lufia II, an old SNES game that had the most amazing emotional storyline. <3

I agree with you on that, it is a very old game somewhere from around end 80's begin 90's. Not really sure when it actually came out. I have a Dutch version myself XD and it was an amazing storyline, and a lot of interesting puzzles as well XD I really hated that one with the red and yellow tiles/blocks XD the last one was very difficult. but there seems more to it then just finishing the game in one go, there were also some secrets in the game and some other things to achieve like getting cool stuff in the casino, completing the ancient cave (taking about 8 hours of game play to get through, if not more) and that puzzle in the dragon cave I thought it was with a door you have to bombard with bombs and then get to the ultimate puzzle of the game. XD I really liked the old game, but not the remake called Estpolis for the 3DS -.- the story was somewhat the same but the game looked so different. Feels the same as what they did with Chrono Trigger. In any case XD I really like the drawing too, how you drew Selan is so great. These wings look fantastic!

I was listening to this song ([link]) when I decided to look for some Lufia artwork... and this happened to be among the first I found...
Coincidence? I don't think so...

While this is certainly not the most sophisticated artwork ever, it perfectly recaptures what I consider one of the most precious moments in video game history, heck, perhaps even in storytelling itself. Although its only bytes and pixels and most of the magic was happening in our heads, I have rarely seen a love story as beautiful as this one, and I will treasure it for the rest of my days.
Thank you for reminding me of it with your artwork.

[Sorry for the delay! OTL]

I'm glad that you see it that way! This is such an old picture (Almost 5 years old!), but since I love this game so much, I'm debating on redrawing it. : ) If I do so, I hope to capture that emotional moment that touched so many hearts.

Is it bad of me to say that this scene literally stuck with me ever since I saw my friend beat back in March or so? ;P You've done an awesome job on this by the way. :)

Thank you very much~ And I agree with you, it was so well done. :( What version was it you were watching? the SNES or PSP version? As I feel that the PSP version did not convoy the scene as powerful as the SNES. But that might be just my preference as I had always enjoyed the SNES version from my childhood.

You're very welcome. :) Thanks for drawing it! And it was the SNES version, I have played the DS version but I like the characters more in the SNES. I dunno, they made Maxim too childish in the remake if you ask me. =P You're not alone though, the SNES is my all time-favorite system. I have so many memories with that system..

Also I have a Lufia inspired character, you can find him in my scraps if you're interested. :)
